Brendan Jubb

Brendan Jubb was born in Canberra. As a child he tried various instruments before taking up the horn at the age of eight.
After leaving school, Brendan went to Sydney to study veterinary science, however after 2 years it became clear that music was more fun, so he moved back to Canberra and completed his Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University. In 1997 Brendan returned to Europe to study with Professor Penzel in Cologne, before taking on positions in the orchestras of Trier and Essen in Germany. There he played much of the opera, ballet and symphonic repertoire, enjoying especially the operas of Mozart, Wagner and Janacek, and playing as much chamber music as possible. Other highlights included performances with the Zurich opera and the Cologne Radio Orchestra. After seven years away from Australia, the call to come home became too strong, and Brendan moved back to Canberra and is now in his third year of the Graduate Medical Program at the ANU. When time permits, Brendan still plays horn with the Canberra Symphony and Sydney Symphony orchestras, and performs chamber music with local pianist and endocrinologist Robert Schmidli. He will appear as soloist in the Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with Corpus Medicum in Melbourne in July.
