2009 series launch at fundraising concert
October 19, 2008

On Saturday, 18 October, Werona hosted a 'different' concert experience. Whilst the first half of the program was performed in the usual style, with Maria Lindsay on the violin and Daniel Herscovitch on the piano, the second half saw the concert seating arrangement removed and people casually sitting or standing around, listening, clapping, tapping and singing along to Charlie Lindsay's Old Time Jazz renditions. There was music on request as well as some surprises when Maria joined in again for the Hot Canary and other jazzy show pieces.

A raffle was drawn, and all musicians played for no fee, which raised around $1200 in support of the 2009 concert series. The series was presented during the concert. Artistic Director, Maria Lindsay, spoke about the concerts and said that she was pleased that the series was continuing into 2009, after a difficult year without government funding. This was mainly due to a core group of volunteers who saw the group through difficult times, and the generous support from patrons, who contributed in excess of $2000, with key supporters wishing to remain anonymous.

The 2009 brochure is now being printed. It is hoped that it will be available for distribution at the next concert on the 23 November, and it will be mailed to all who are on the BMCCI mailing list. Ticket sales will open soon after that, with series subscriptions available - the only way to get a guaranteed seat at the very popular house concerts at Werona.
