Look forward to a baroque feast with Biber's Mystery Sonatas!
This exciting work will be performed on violin by Maria Lindsay, accompanied by Sydney based harpsichordist, Monika Kornel, and baroque cellist James Beck from the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Maria will be using two violins –- not at the same time! -- with gut strings, and which will be tuned, off stage, to different pitches for each piece. This tuning process results in the violin resonating in different ways making it sound like a different instrument – a common baroque technique. The tuning will be done by Stan Kornel, a violinist with the Sydney Symphony. The music itself is based on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary.
Please note: the concerts will start ½ hour earlier than usual. The Friday concert will commence at 7.30pm and the Saturday concert at 2.00pm. This is due to the length of this extraordinary piece of music.
